KAIROS, Halifax Cluster, Donates Books to the AST Library

The Atlantic School of Theology Library is proud to receive a collection of six books donated by KAIROS Halifax in grateful memory of Dr. Helen Ralston, RSCJ, in recognition of her lifelong work for social justice and peace. Dr. Helen Ralston was a passionate advocate for social and economic justice and an active participant in the activities of KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives both nationally and through the Halifax group.

Born in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia in 1929, Helen Ralston entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in 1957 in Albany, NY. Helen Ralston moved to Canada in 1956, worked at the Montreal General Hospital, and later taught at both the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Montreal (1959-62) and the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Halifax (1962- 65). A member the Faculty of Arts at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax since 1968, Helen Ralston graduated in 1973 from Carleton University with her in Ph.D. in Sociology and retired in 1994 as Professor Emerita of Sociology, Saint Mary’s University. Helen Ralston passed away on December 25, 2006.

The six books donated by KAIROS in memory of Dr. Ralston, explore a number of social topics, including fragmented communities, Christian ecological ethics, and political theology of the environment. The titles are:

1. The Green Bible (2002), by Scharper & Cunningham (BT 695.5 G74 2002).
2. Moral Fragments & Moral Community (1993), by Rasmussen (BR 526 R365 1993).
3. Darwin, Divinity, and the Dance of the Cosmos (2007), by Sanguin (BT 695.5 S24 2007).
4. The Season of Creation: A Preaching Commentary (2001), by Habel et al. (BT 695.5 S34 2001).
5. Sacramental Commons (2006), by Hart (BT 695.5 H36 2006).
6. Redeeming the Time: A Political Theology of the Environment (1997), by Scharper (BT 695.5 S27 1997).
